Wil, Kate and Other Stories

The hazard of being a blogger with an adventurous lifestyle is that sometime, adventure gets in the way of writing.  Really, though - that's a pretty weak excuse when my friend Jill is pumping out the posting, writing and photography at least 3 times a week.  But hey, the girl has like 1000 Followers!!!  And she's in the business of writing.

Me, I'm in the business of fun.  And fun always wins out.

So, I'm giving y'all the whirlwind photo tour of a few different adventures of the past little while.  I'm heading deep into the mountains this weekend,to enjoy some quality time in the Mount Assiniboine area. It's an incredibly beautiful area, I'm looking forward to my time spent there.

A Little Story

What's the Wil and Kate thing all about?  Well, the Royal Couple With the Most-est decided to escape to the Canadian Rockies.  Where did they go?  Well, a helicopter whisked them away and dropped them at my most favorite place on earth:  Skoki Lodge. They were there enjoying a picture perfect 25C day and evidently, took a hike to Merlin Lake.  It so happened that I was there the next day when it looked like this:

But, it's all fun when you're having an adventure.  And despite the weather weirdness of this particular weekend, fun was had.  We braved a 24 hour snowstorm, a night in the tent and awoke to a white world outside.  While the Royals were well nested under their down duvets and custom-made Backcountry Shitter, I woke up feeling like this:

Baker Lake Campground Early AM - Camping is Fun!

However, I did get to sign the Guest Book at Skoki and sneak-a-peak to see if our Royal friends had done the same.  In the summer months I always sign the register with the same comment:  "A Nice Day for a Run."  Sure enough, I signed just below William and Cate.  I had to giggle when I saw Prince William called himself Willy.  Willy!  Baaa-ha-ha!  Oh Willy, you're so silly.  It looks like your lady has a more formal side - no Cate here, just Catherine.

Special Guests:  Leslie, Mike and Steve!   And Willy and Catherine....

Fortunately, the weather redeemed itself and we enjoyed a summery weekend this past weekend.  It was the first time this year, that it truly felt like summer.

Hope you are all enjoying a great summer.  Enjoy the pictures!

I wonder how long before someone tears that page out of the register!

More glorious shots as usual!! Thanks for adding the link to this weekends adventures. I await with bated breathe!
I was beach walking this week and sadly as I rock hopped my camera fell and now I am looking for another. What do you use ? I imagine it is compact but takes such fantastic panoramas.

Excellent photos. Thanks for the memories of a few of my favourite places. There is more snow, this late in summer(?), at altitude this year than I can remember. It provides some wonderful opportunities for unique views and hiking situations. I was biking in Baker Park in Calgary when the Royal helicopter entourage passed overhead. Very exciting. Very cool, your photo of Skoki's register book. Loved your video of Merlin Lake. What a difference a day makes!

@barry..and here I was wondering where all the snow went! A month ago I was dealing with 8 feet of snow at 4500ft approaching Olympus.

Hi Derrick and Sara. Hope summer is treating you well and you're having adventures of your own!

Steve and K - we seem to be at the other end of the thermostat from you. I got snowed on AGAIN this weekend. It was awesome.

Brian! You even need to know how old you REALLY are, just look in the mirror in the morning when you are camping. Yikes, indeed!!!

K - yup, Willy!! HA!! Enjoy those Eastern temperatures and think of me.

Hi Helen! I use an Olympus Stylus Tough because you can beat it up. I am not easy on my cameras. :)

Hi Barry! Yup, what a difference a day makes. It would NOT have been nearly as good an experience for our Royal Friends. Can you imagine? :) There's so much snow that everything is late - I'm still seeing Glacier Lilies out there!! And Pulsatilla's coming out of the snow! I did however, jump in not one but 2 high alpine lakes this weekend (in between snow storms) a sure sign that summer is here.

Oh, my, please make our kids grow faster, so we can have free weekends to fly and visit Leslie and her grounds! I look the same when wake up in a tent after a day of hard hiking - have picture to prove! https://picasaweb.google.com/olgav100/FlagstaffAZMay2011#5630510391805862258
Actually, much worse...
But loved it as you did!
