Banff Trail Trash at the TransRockies Run: We're trashy. We're fun. We Really Like to Run.

Well, it's only been 5 days since we finished up our epic week at the 2009 Gore-tex TransRockies Run, but it already feels like something that happened a long time ago. TransRockies, being TransRockies left me with a hazy hangover of good stories, memories and photos of great trails and incredible people. Did I mention the people? Damn, running folks are good peeps. Somewhere in the whole process, my husband realized that he is an athlete who can hold his own, as well as being a fantastic partner and someone who people just plain like. Yep, Keith was a superstar. And the man can suffer!

For Team Banff Trail Trash, our goal was simple: to have the most fun of anyone and get to the finish line. Hell yeah, we got to the finish line! And damn, did we have fun.

Since then, we drove a couple 1000 km's, stopped for some beers and pizza in Montana with Danni, went back to work for a few days and signed up for a 100 Miler. Oh yeah, did I do that? Crap. Needless to say, it has been a busy week and I'm still doing laundry and putting shit away. But I've got those fine memories of TransRockies lingering like a nasty hangover, to get me through the week and put a dreamy smile back on my face. This years edition of the TransRockies Run was special and it got me pumped for the next adventure. I've got 3 days of running planned for the next 3 days and heck, yeah! I'm excited!

Stay tuned for a full race report!

  4. Woohooo!!! You will do great at Bear. Not a doubt in my mind. And you're going to have so much fun. You are better trained than most people going into this I'm sure.

  5. I'm a complete trail running newb but must admit that looks fun and tough! And now for the newb questions:
How do you run with poles?
When you're not using them do you run with them in a horizontal position or put them in your pack?

  9. Hi Christina! And thanks for the question. If you got a pole friendly hydration pack, you can just attach them vertically on each side of your pack. Poles are great for climbing, if you you are tired, and if you are going really, really long they help preserve your legs. I ran with them for all 6 days of T.R just for practice, knowing I was going into a 100 Miler where I plan on using them a lot. I also just shorten them and run with them balanced in my hands. With lots of practice, my body has gotten used to them and I barely notice they are there. If I was "racing" and trying to go fast, they probably would be a headache. But I'm not, so I love the poles!

Thanks for the kind words Deb, Norma, Meghan, Anna and Danni! Deb - you were a speedy speedster out there and Norma, god-damn you now how to suffer!
    :)

  10. Leslie, Thanks for sharing your personal account of last years TRR. If you are there this year please keep a look out for team "Goodnight Shirt" - they''re newbies to stage racing and to the TRR. Alison and Amber are their names - A mother and daughter team. Alison will turn 50 on August 28!! I am Alison's partner - I helped her with research, pacing trail runs and will be taking care of the dogs, cats, chickens and ducks here at the Golden Hour Ranch & Circus. Christopher
