Summer was the best as 1) due to teaching parents we were there for 6 - 8 weeks and 2) summer camp training was a great mix of morning glacier training and afternoon mountain fun - all resulting in an ability to eat an enormous amount of French bed, cheese, saussison, choc and nestle milk (you know the really sweet stuff you could get in tubes which was totally lush on French bread). To this day I still feel like the French Alps are home. I get very homesick for it now I have to finance my own way there and there are certain smells (wet dust after a rain storm in the summer and snow in the air) that immediately transport me there! A giant row of gourmet cheeses divided by region. And practically free. Don't get me started on the chocolate Aisle. I did work my way through the cheap, to the expensive in the Chocolate Aisle and found my fave was a Swiss Coop Sport Bar in white or milk, loaded with raisins, hazelnuts and almonds for 1.45. There there was the Wine Aisle. The cheap drinkin' wine was only 3 francs when I was there. Oh yeah, that was 1990. :) I guess I'm aging like cheap wine. Wait, cheap wine ages badly...Lesliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01150418063632737685noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5633758899598480722.post-90536269933296485722011-03-26T09:27:37.057-06:002011-03-26T09:27:37.057-06:00My first 'real' bike tour involved crossin...My first 'real' bike tour involved crossing the Alps thru Austria, Swiss, Italy...etc...back and forth over passes...addicted to bikes ever since! Vive les Alps! Great post LeslieEllie Greenwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05053246362407725539noreply@blogger.com
